Lila Kay Collier (Beasley)

The Dedication Service was so impressive. Thanks to all for attending.
The families of the deceased classmates were sad but at the same time, they were so appreciative. They were comforted by the fact that the class took the initiative to remember their lost one with a lasting memorial.
Thank you:
Lolly, Judy, Brent, Rhea, Mickey, Tommy and Gerald for your active roles and to all those who attended and made the night special for the family members.

Just read what Bear Hart and Lila Kay Collier Beasley had to say and they took the words right out of my mouth. Our class has done a pretty cool thing by remembering our classmates. I can say that I am proud to be a small part of a special group of folks. God Bless.

It was an evening of laughter and tears; the pictures on the memorial table below the bronze seal were of young, smiling kids who will always remain high school seniors who never got a chance to grow old and gray like the rest of us. From Linda Adams to Clyde Woods, we all have a part of them to carry with us, thanks to the hard work that went in to making of the seal a reality. Present and future students won't know the story behind the seal. But we do and this occasion is one we won't forget. I thank all of the Class of '68 for giving me the chance to remember how much we all mean to each other, whether we realize it or not.

Brent and I are so sorry we were not able to attend the dedication at the last minute. The reports we have been getting are wonderful. Thanks to all who stepped in and helped out with the dedication. Most of all, a big thank you to the entire class for getting behind the project and making the dream come true.

We are so proud to be members of the Class of '68.

The dedication surpassed my expectations. There is something about remembering the past so we can build for the future. Thanks to all of you for making our dream a reality. I was so touched, and the families represented will not forget that night. The greatest fear when we lose a loved one is that he/she will be forgotten. Thank you, Class, for preserving the memory of our classmates for posterity. Tommy, you were fabulous! And Gerald, Mickey, Rhea, Brent and Judy...it could not have happened without you. It was a night to remember. Tommy is sending me his speech. I will add it to the introduction and post pictures as soon as I receive them. Keep watching for it! Love you all!
Lolly

What a precious time it was to hear each person memorialized and the feeling of comraderie between all of us. We were always the 'different' group of kids and I believe that remains the same. As usual everything was done with style and grace. Thank you to everyone involved.

I hated I missed the dedication. Unfortunately, I had to work and could not get off at that particular time.
I know it was moving and exciting at the same time.
The class of '68 was a unique class and continues to be a unique class of individuals who have supported and honored our friends in so many ways.
There won't be another class like this one again, and I am so proud to have been a part of it.
My thoughts were with everyone Friday night.

I think that everyone else has said exactly what I feel about our Seal and the dedication ceremony. It was a blessing for family and friends. I am so thankful to our classmates who worked so hard on the whole idea! Proud to be part of such a wonderful group.

I was so glad to see so many of you again even though it was a somewhat sad occasion. The seal is beautiful and a wonderful memorial for the ones that have already left us and for all of us who will some day join them on that memorial wall. It still seems unbelievable to me that it has been over 40 years since I had seen many of you; where did all those years go? Several of you I didn't get a chance to say Hello to; believe me when I say that I was thrilled to see you just the same. I think all of us have weathered the storms of life quite well as far as how we all look! Rhea mentioned that it would be fun to get together all of us that live up here in the Nashville area maybe this summer; I hope we can make it happen. I'm glad that modern technology allows us to do a very old-fashioned thing, and that is stay in touch! Keep the messages coming and the communication open. We were and still are a great and unique group! Vicky Brasier

I'm still talking about our memorial dedication to my co-workers like I did the 40th reunion. They all felt that it was such a wonderful thing to do and it even made me more proud that I took the day off work to be a part of it. As much fun as we had at Legends before hand, it all melted away when I saw those pictures and the votive candles and the seal. Chills went down my arms as each name was read and the bell rung. I sincerely hope that any parents of our friends who are still alive realize how much we loved their kids. Time passes, it's easy to forget, to lose track, but for each one that I found out had passed, part of me went with them. I started not to go because my supervisor is sort of picky about employees taking off work, but I knew there was no way that I could miss this. God rest their souls and bless us that knew them.

How sad to learn about the death of Mr. Scott. He was a great principal. He actually remembered me at the reunion. I'm sure he remembered a lot of us. I'm so glad he got to be there that night.I hope many of our class will be able to attend visitation or funeral.

When I saw Mr. Scott at the reunion, I thought, good gracious, he must be 100 years old! I wasn't far off, so when we graduated, he must have been about 52. A fine example of a life well lived. I read his obit and it was interesting how retiring never stopped him; he was really active in the Senior Citizens group there in Shelbyville and I know they will surely miss him, too.

When I talked to him that night, he was still so gentle and gracious..his eyes smiling. I believe he was actually as excited and happy to be at the reunion as we all were and as we were to have him there.
That night brought such a feeling of renewal, memories, and sadness. The whole experience with the friends, former teachers, and everything that happened that night, was unique, and I don't think anything else will ever surpass it.
It was an endearing way to say hello once again to each other, and, unknowingly, good bye to Mr. Scott.

If you haven't checked Larry "Bear" Hart's profile, by all means, do. He has recently added pictures from the interior of our old CHS the way it looks today and describing which room was what. It's sad to see the shape it's in, but funny to read Larry's descriptions, especially where his locker was.Someone tried to lock Leslie White inside it, he said. Well, I don't think they could get away with it today! But the pictures of all his cars, trophies, "New Hope Road", and especially the ones of ol' CHS are really neat to see.

Porter Hardison passed away this afternoon.

Porter was and always will be one of those people that symbolizes a time, an era, a memory that we all share when we think about the days of our high school experiences and the fun as well as the headaches, the heartaches, and the very real problems that many of us dealt with during that time. At the risk of not having this next statement understood in the way it is meant, he was in so many ways our "Fonzie" or our own Ferris Bueller! He was known by all of us; he was one of those charismatic personalities that we can never forget. He will now take his place in that memorial that means so much to this entire class. We love you Porter and Linda; we hope that our support and our love will sustain you now and in the many days to come. Always your friend, Vicky Brasier

Our wonderful group '68 once again loses one of its own. I am so sorry for the loss of such a unique guy. My sympathy goes out to Melinda, Linda and all of those who were involved in his life.
Forty one years ago we all thought we were invinsible..that life would be ours for the chosing and nothing could happen to us...the innocence of that time should be treasured, as should the memory of one of our treasured friends.

Yes, Judy,,, years ago, we all thought we were so young and that life just went on forever. We have all matured enough to realize we really only have today. Porter always treated me the same, no matter where he saw me. He just never forgot. He has had a rough road. God is the healer and sometimes, his way of healing is to bring one of his own home to not suffer anymore. Porter's life has been a blessing to many and will continue to be for years to come.

And,,, Kathy Thompson,,, it was surely good to run into you at Sally's while you were in town,,,,

Daniel and I attended Porter's visitation on Sunday and then his funeral on Monday. It was 2 occasions that were sad and joyful at the same time; many times this is how a funeral is. I saw many, many good friends and acquaintances that I have not seen in a long time; one was Melody; I had not seen her since we were in our early 20's! Porter was and is a good man. He will be so missed, and yet his memory will live on. Speaking of memories; get your senior annual out and look at the picture of all of us on the inside cover. I studied it today for about 30 minutes and just remembered... Does anyone have any idea where I am in that picture?!? I could not find me!

Porter was COOL. He was the ONE. Everybody in school knew it and he epitomizes that era, he kept it alive for us. Linda, you will miss him forever, but you are not alone; we will all miss him along with you.

My heart and prayers go out to Larry and his family.
My only son passed away from cancer 10 years ago..Words at this time don't do much of anything, only trying to convey kindness and help in a time such as this.
Strength comes from somewhere at the time like this--I don't know where. My heart goes out to his mother...I know the fear, the wait, the loss. Bless you all.
